Can't shake this jetlag
I'm so exhausted, and my sleeping patterns have been thrown wayyy off by this trip. I'm just not used to leaving the country i guess but at night i can only sleep for an hour at a time before waking up. I usually nap in the day. I think they're trying to slowly ease us into the schedule, but I'm so tired that I almost fell asleep in my 3 hour Italian class. Hopefully it wears off soon because I just want to sleep. I forgot to mention in my last post that yesterday Brian, Nick, and I were looking for a gym to join, and we accidentally walked into the most exclusive gym in the city, where the manager insisted on giving us a tour. To be honest our local Y had better equipment, but they had spas and a pool, and a haircut service. I could tell immediately when I walked in that it was definitely not what I was looking for by the music playing in the "lounge." Also the fact that they had a freaking lounge. It would have been about 8-900 dollars for a 3 month membership ha! I just don't understand the way some people live. We woke up really early this morning about about 7:30 to get our "permesso di soggiorno" which is basically permission to stay in Italy on top of our visa. That document will allow us to travel throughout Europe, so I'm excited to get it. Also for lunch we went to this cheap pizzeria that I think was called "Istanbul." I got a little spanakopeta type thing that was pretty good, and when we were paying the guy at the counter told us in broken English that he was from Iraq and "the U.S. and Iraq are brothers because the U.S. made Iraq better." I thought that was cool, since all I ever hear back home is negative. It's good to know that no matter what your thoughts may be on our situation over there, at least there are people out there who have benefited from and appreciate the sacrifices our soldiers are making. So that was pretty much it for the day except for class, and I'm starting to get settled into a routine. I just can't wait for this jetlag to finally go away.
