Weekend

God was definitely watching over me this weekend. On Friday night, I probably had the single luckiest experience of my life at the Squash Center gym I joined. I was doing a normal amount of weight on the benchpress, but I didn't consider that the bars here are much shorter and lighter than the ones at home, so when I went to clear the weight off the bar flipped right off the bench and hit me directly in the eye. I can't say enough how lucky I am. There was blood all over my hands and everything went black for a few seconds. I really thought I might have done something serious for a few seconds. I didn't even know what hit me. The manager of the gym came over and gave me a coke to put on my eye, and miraculously even though there was a ton of blood at first, it was just from a cut outside my eye, there was no blood coming from my actual eyeball. There was no damage (noticeable anyway) to my sight, and I got out of a pretty scary situation with only a black eye and feeling pretty embarrassed. A fraction of an inch in another direction and I could have been in a pretty bad spot, so I'm thankful that God was looking out for me. Last night was a pretty fun night. We got dinner at a club, which was expensive for me as a college student but all things considered, a pretty good deal at 20 euro since it included entry into the club and unlimited wine. It was a pretty fancy dinner, and we met up with a girl that Brian and Nick knew that they had met at home. She came with a bunch of older guys and girls-like 27 years old. The students themselves are much older here (some as old as 25 still doing undergrad) and these people were out in the working world. The conversation was a bit forced at first since we had almost nothing in common, but eventually we mixed and matched Italian and English into a decent conversation about: You guessed it! The differences between America and Europe. I did switch it up a bit to try to figure out where to go for different kinds of food in Italy though. After dinner, the started up the music and the club was jumping. I left with a couple of people to go to another little bar to buy drinks which were much cheaper than at the club. When we got back it took me forever to find the Dickinson kids, and we actually left not much longer after. We got into a long conversation on the street, which seems to always happen here because people really like to practice their English. Fabiola and I ended up walking toward our street with an Italian who was just a great dude. It was freezing and snowy, and I honestly have no idea what time we got back in. I didn't get the chance to go to the soccer game today, though. The weather was bad enough that everyone in the house vetoed it. Today was just another lazy Sunday spent watching movies in the apartment, but I didn't really mind because its been such a crazy week overall.
